Darren Potter wants to raise £5,000 to give his wife a honeymoon they never had

A PROMISE to take his wife on the honeymoon they never had has been made by a Wiltshire man who married 23 years ago but is now slowly dying from cancer.
Darren Potter has been told he has Stage 4 lung cancer which has spread to other parts of his body.
He has launched a gofundme appeal to raise £5,000 to take his wife Emily and their five children on holiday before it’s too late to do so.
Darren, 46, said: “With my time running out I would like to try and keep a promise to my wife and renew our wedding vows. ....

Air source heat pumps and solar panels have been installed in barracks
New energy efficient buildings have been built in Wiltshire to accommodate the training of soldiers.
The building blocks at Westdown Camp in Salisbury Plain have A-rated Energy Performance Certificates and feature air source heat pumps and solar panels.
Air source heat pumps, which take additional electrical power from solar PV panels installed on the roof, provide the accommodation’s complete heating and hot water needs.
The buildings are also designed to reduce electricity costs.
The programme is being part-funded from a £200 million-investment to improve armed forces accommodation, which was announced by the Defence Secretary last summer. ....

New carbon efficient accommodation marks start of nationwide improvements on the Defence Training Estate
Soldiers using Salisbury Plain and Nesscliff Training Areas are the first to benefit from new carbon efficient accommodation, delivered as part of the £45-million Net Carbon Accommodation Programme (NetCAP).

The programme is being part-funded using money from a £200-million investment to improve armed forces accommodation, which was announced by the Defence Secretary last summer.
The MOD is investing more than £35-million of this funding, in addition to funding from the British Army, into its nationwide programme, which aims to improve facilities for troops when they are training away from their permanent barracks. ....

Military personnel recognised in Queen's New Year's Honours

MILITARY personnel have been awarded honours in recognition of their response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Lieutenant General Tyrone Urch, currently commander of Standing Joint Command (UK) and responsible for the military support to the Covid-19 crisis, has been made a Knight Commander of the British Empire in the New Year’s Honours list.
General Urch served twice at HQ Land Command in Wilton, commanded 22 Engineer Regiment at Perham Down and later was Commander of 1 Mechanised Brigade in Bulford.
Richard Osgood, the Ministry of Defence archaeologist based at Westdown Camp on Salisbury Plain, has been made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). The award was for his outstanding contribution to military archaeology, not just on Salisbury Plain but across the UK and on the First War Battlefields in Northern France and Belgium. ....
