In other case categories, numbers either increased or remained similar to yesterday. Meanwhile, the B.C. immunization program has passed a major milestone. Today, people who are 65 years old and above, Indigenous peoples 18 and above, and individuals who received a clinical vulnerability letter can register for their vaccine (Vancouver Coastal Health began doing so yesterday). In health violation news, Surrey RCMP arrested and fined a male suspect (who hadn t been wearing a mask) for spitting in the face of a security guard at Guildford shopping mall.

COVID-19 cases in Prince Rupert remain a concern SHARE ON: Northern Health continues to monitor a pair of outbreaks in Prince Rupert. Control measures remain in place at Prince Rupert Regional Hospital, on the Patient Care Unit. To date, there have been three lab-confirmed cases among patients, and one staff case, after the outbreak was declared on March 28th. Following an outbreak declaration at Acropolis Manor on April 3rd, five residents on the West Pod have tested positive for COVID-19. Monitoring and testing continues at both facilities, in order to identify any additional cases.

Meanwhile, B.C.’s immunization program is advancing to Phase 3 ahead of schedule tomorrow, with a new online booking system available (more details below). Health violations Controversy arose when two Vancouver restaurants announced that they would defy provincial health orders to close all indoor dining. In response, Vancouver Coastal Health ordered one of the establishments, Gusto in the Olympic Village, to shut down. The president and CEO of the B.C. Restaurant and Foodservices Association issued a statement to condemn the actions of these restaurant owners.

Prince Rupert care home declares COVID-19 outbreak a second time SHARE ON: Acropolis Manor (Google Maps Screenshot) A second reoccurrence of COVID-19 has been found at Prince Rupert’s Acropolis Manor, shortly after the first deadly outbreak ended on March 16. Northern Health declared the outbreak yesterday (Sunday) after two residents of the West Pod tested positive for the virus. 57 people, including 33 residents and 24 staff, eventually would become ill in the three-month-long initial outbreak. 16 of the 33 residents who became ill died, Northern Health says, roughly 49 percent of residents who received a positive test. As a result of the second occurrence, the health authority has increased patient screening and cleaning measures, suspended social visits, and restricted the movement of staff and residents.
