75% voter turnout recorded in seventh phase of West Bengal elections


Voting began at 7 am on Monday amid tight security and concluded at 6 pm.
Voting was held in 11,376 polling stations spread across 34 assembly constituencies in five districts.
Among the 34 constituencies that went to polls in Phase-VII, six are in Dakshin Dinajpur, six in Malda, nine in Murshidabad, nine in Paschim Bardhaman and four in Kolkata.
Among the five districts, Murshidabad recorded the highest voter turnout of 80.37 per cent till 5 pm. The lowest voter turnout was observed in Kolkata South with 60.03 per cent.
Constituency-wise, Raninagar in the Murshidabad district recorded the highest voter turnout of 84.35 per cent followed by Bhagabangola at 83.50 per cent. Rashbehari constituency in Kolkata witnessed the lowest voter turnout at 55.93 per cent. ....

west bengal polls 2021: Polling begins for sixth phase of West Bengal elections


Over 1.03 crore voters will decide the political fate of 306 candidates in this phase.
Of them, 53.21 lakh are men and 50.65 lakh women, while 256 are the third gender.
A staggering 1,071 companies of central forces have been deployed in this phase to ensure free and fair voting, officials said.
Each company of central force has around 100 personnel and officers.
The voting is being held in 14,480 polling stations in the 43 assembly segments in the four districts.
Polling will continue till 6.30 pm, officials said.
Elections to the 294-member West Bengal assembly are being held in eight phases, starting on March 27. Votes will be counted on May 2 with the last phase scheduled to be held on April 29. ....

Kolkata: Stray incidents of violence were reported on Thursday (April 22) from various parts of Bengal where voting is underway in the sixth phase of assembly elections, but the overall poll situation was largely peaceful with 37.27 per cent turnout recorded till 11 am.
In Uttar Dinajpur s Chopra area, shots were reportedly fired after clashes broke out between activists of the TMC and the BJP over allegations of heckling by agents of a polling booth, according to news agency PTI. ....
