KOLKATA: Half of BJP s final tally of 77 seats in the West Bengal Assembly elections came in constituencies reserved for the Dalits. The state has 84 constituencies reserved for SC and ST candidates and the saffron camp won 38 of these. ....

West Bengal suspends Coochbehar SP, to investigate CISF Sitalkuchi firing incident

New Delhi: The West Bengal government on Wednesday (May 5) suspended Coochbehar Superintendent of Police Debashis Dhar in connection with the Sitalkuchi firing incident by alleged CISF personnel in which at least four people lost their lives. The government-appointed K Kannan as the new SP of Coochbehar. According to reports, the Bengal government will investigate the Sitalkuchi firing by CISF jawans in which four people, all Trinamool Congress workers, were killed at a booth during the fourth phase of polling in Coochbehar district. 
The development came hours after TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee was administered the oath for the third time as the Chief Minister of West Bengal. Soon after assuming office, the West Bengal CM initiated a major reshuffle in the police hierarchy, transferring 29 top-level police officers, mostly those who were shifted by the election commission prior to the polls. Rajni Gill woke up with a slight fever in mid-April, the first warning that she had COVID-19. Within a few days, she was breathless and nearly unconscious in a hospital.
Desperate to arrange plasma treatment for Dr Gill, a gynaecologist in the city of Noida, her family called doctors, friends, anyone they thought could help. Then her sister posted a plea on Facebook: “I am looking for a plasma donor for my sister who is hospitalised in Noida. She is B positive and is 43.”
The message, quickly amplified on Twitter, flashed across the phone of Srinivas B.V., an opposition politician in nearby Delhi, who was just then securing plasma for a college student. He deputised a volunteer donor to rush to the blood bank for Dr Gill. ....

Mamata Banerjee to take oath as Bengal CM at 10:45 tomorrow

Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee will take oath as Chief Minister of Bengal tomorrow, May 5 at 10:45 am in Rajbhawan. The oath will be administered to Mamata Banerjee by Protem speaker Subrata Mukherjee as he is the seniormost MLA.
