May 18, 2021 Casino Connection: Students and Teacher Positive for COVID-19 What was most feared about the reopening of in-person learning at schools has happened. Today, a number of parents did not send their children to school at two primary schools in Belize City after word spread like wildfire on Monday night that there was a high possibility that COVID-19 was detected in a few students. Well, this evening, the Ministry of Health and Wellness confirmed that four primary school students from the lower division of the Wesley Primary School in Belize City have tested positive for COVID-19. A teacher from the Queen Square Anglican School has also tested positive. While other teachers and students have tested negative with a rapid test, their PCR results are pending. Apr 13, 2021 Teachers Prepare for Students to Return to School Amid COVID-19 The initial phase of a two-part rollout for students and teachers to return to their respective classrooms is underway and the Ministry of Education has given the go-ahead for fifty-five schools to reopen by April nineteenth. This morning, News Five visited several schools, including kindergarten, primary and secondary levels, to witness firsthand the preparations that are being made ahead of the resumption of classes. Isani Cayetano, Reporting The reopening of some schools, a little over a year after being abruptly closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is a measured step in the right direction. It has become necessary for students to receive face-to-face tuition, despite the dangers of the dreaded disease.
