SUTTON Town Manager James Smith presented a preliminary fiscal 2022 operating budget for the town of $35,235,545, an increase of $946,930 over fiscal 2021 spending, to the Sutton Select Board on Tuesday, Feb. 16.
“Fiscal Year 2021 was an interesting and challenging year, Smith said, and one that required a conservative approach to spending and financial planning.
“We could not count on the meals tax, investment income, motor vehicle excise taxes and building fees, because of the economic impact of the pandemic, he said.
All town workers remained employed throughout the pandemic, he said, in a shared effort with the municipal and school departments. ....

SUTTON The Sutton Select Board will maintain the state of emergency issued in March by Gov. Charlie Baker in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, board chair Wendy Mead said at Tuesday’s meeting, Jan. 19.
The town will “continue to follow medical professionals, the CDC and the lead of the Commonwealth as we make our collective way through this pandemic,’’ she said.
Her comments and subsequent discussion were in response to a call for the select board to rescind the state of emergency, in a letter signed “We the People of Sutton’’ and sent to town hall earlier this month. ....

SUTTON A letter signed “We the People of Sutton’’ recently submitted to the Sutton Select Board seeks to have town officials rescind the state of emergency enacted by Gov. Charlie Baker in March in response to rising COVID-19 cases.
The board is asked to “provide the clinical or verifiable scientific evidence that an actual widespread emergency condition exists.’’

“The people of Sutton want this over with,’’ town resident Tammy Blakeslee said at the meeting Tuesday, Jan. 5. “We hope Sutton will be a leader in getting us out of this medical tyranny.’’
The letter was delivered Tuesday to town hall signed, “We the People of Sutton.’’ The board is asked to “provide the clinical or verifiable scientific evidence that an actual widespread emergency condition exists,’’ among other requests. ....
