Bob Ortmyer (Photo provided) ELIZABETHTOWN The University of Vermont Health Network’s Elizabethtown Community Hospital announced Thursday the appointment of its new president, Bob Ortmyer. He will formally begin his role on July 12. Ortmyer has been with WellSpan Health System in York, Pennsylvania, for 30 years, serving in a number of leadership positions. In his current role as vice president and chief operating officer at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital, he is responsible for a 141-bed acute care hospital within an eight-hospital system. “Bob has the right mix of experience and skills to lead ECH as it continues to thrive and grow,” Dr. John Brumsted, president and CEO of the UVM Health Network, said in a press release. “Equally as important, he shares the UVM Health Network’s commitment to ensuring outstanding health care is accessible and affordable for years to come in this region.”

PEMA and hospital systems collaborate on mass vaccination sites in PA

York Daily Record A healthcare system in central Pennsylvania recently opened its website for coronavirus vaccination appointments, and in less than 48 hours, it was booked through the end of February. Between that Tuesday afternoon and Thursday morning, 45,000 people had signed up for vaccinations, said Ryan Coyle, manager of WellSpan Health Systems public relations and communications. But booking an appointment in February may get easier. Hospital systems are coordinating with the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency to provide mass vaccination sites across the state starting in mid- to late-February, according to Department of Health spokesperson April Hutcheson. While we await additional quantities of vaccine for the expanded 1A group, we have identified locations in several communities to establish mass vaccination sites, said Scott Gilbert with Penn State Health s public relations team via email.

Ray of hope: COVID-19 vaccine expected to arrive in Lancaster County this week

At a news conference, state Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine called Monday “a great day” as 83 hospitals across the state began immunizing health care workers against the deadly pathogen. Five UPMC workers in Pittsburgh rolled up their sleeves, receiving the vaccine to applause and cheers. UPMC — which has 90,000 employees in 40 hospitals across Pennsylvania, including UPMC Lititz — received 975 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine Monday morning, said Tami Minnier, UPMC’s chief quality officer. Pennsylvania is expected to receive 97,500 doses of the Pfizer vaccine this week, state officials announced. More doses are expected to arrive next week. If Moderna’s vaccine receives FDA approval this week, as expected, Pennsylvania could begin receiving that vaccine next week as well.
