Images of a taniwha projected on the Carter Fountain in Oriental Bay tell the story of Te Whanganui-ā-Tara. Taniwha dancing over Oriental Bay are set to dazzle people out on an evening stroll for the next couple of months in Wellington. Friday marks the launch of
What If The City Was A Theatre?,a months-long, city-wide arts programme put on by The Performance Arcade. The programme is free to all and is set to feature more than 300 individual performances from 25 collaborators from Friday through to March 28. The hologram projection, which tells the story of the taniwha of Te Whanganui-ā-Tara, will be turned on at the Carter Fountain every night of the festival, starting Friday.
Rouge was previously awarded a Variety Artists Club of New Zealand scroll of honour in recognition of her contribution as a producer and artistic director of the Menagerie. “I would love to carry on in the Opera House, it s an incredible venue, and the perfect place to showcase our diverse range of entertainment. However, unfortunately it s become clear that it s unsustainable for me to continue with this show,” she said.

The final performance will include musical talents, drag, circus, magic, dance and Māori performing arts. Starting off in Fringe Bar, Rouge wanted to provide a platform to bring the work to a larger audience in a more grand setting. The vision was to create a show that could grow into the Kiwi equivalent to the Royal Variety Performance, she said.
