Cedar Rapids is searching for a nonprofit to own the Wellington Heights building that the city is turning into affordable housing. Rental costs and possible supportive services will be determined through competitive proposals, but the city is targeting those making at least 80 percent area median income.
Work remains underway to transform a once-vacant office building in Wellington Heights into affordable housing units. The building, now known as “The Heights,” is slated to be turned over to a nonprofit to own and maintain next March.
The city of Cedar Rapids will use about $1.39 million in federal funds to renovate the vacant property in Wellington Heights and create up to 25 affordable residential units before turning ownership and maintenance over to a nonprofit.
