The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) of NCC, Professor Umar Garba Danbatta has called on private and public institutions to leverage Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to digitise their hard copy knowledge materials to make them more efficiently accessible to their workforce and external stakeholders.
Danbatta made the call within the week when the Commission joined the rest of the world to celebrate the 2021 Library Day with the theme: “Welcome to Your Library.”
Speaking at the event, held at the NCC Head Office in Abuja, the EVC expressed dismay at the dwindling book-reading culture in Nigeria, calling for a positive change of attitude in the nations’ reading culture.

National Library Week, taking place April 4-10, celebrates the role of the library as an institution in communities, not just as a place for books as itâs traditionally thought of, but as a center for enriching the lives of community members.
Welcome to Your Library
National Library Weekâs theme of âWelcome to Your Libraryâ fits not just new library users, but even those who may already have experience with the library and could use a chance to get reacquainted, as some things are a little different.
The 12 Pioneer Library System library branches in 10 communities serve a population of nearly 400,000 residents. The systemâs total shared collection consists of hundreds of thousands of materials open to any PLS cardholder.
