The family of a 16-year-old boy fatally shot Tuesday by a Maryland state trooper released a statement on Wednesday.Maryland State Police said they received 911 calls for a person acting suspiciously who might be armed. Police said a trooper responded and confronted Peyton Ham, 16, of Leonardtown, in a driveway.According to police, Ham pointed what appeared to be a gun at the trooper, and the trooper fired his weapon, striking Ham. Police said Ham then pulled out a knife and tried to get up, and that s when the trooper fired another shot, striking Ham.Ham was taken a hospital, where he died, police said.Police said they later determined that Ham was holding an airsoft gun, which they say is a close representation of an actual handgun.
