WB Assembly Elections: TMC, BJP workers Clash in Nandigram, sporadic chaos and violence marks the electoral battle in the state

PM Modi | Mamata Banerjee After three months of an incessant, high-pitch campaign by both West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bhartiya Janata Party’s leader Suvendu Adhikari, who switched over to BJP from TMC  a few months before the polls, a very polarised Nandigram concluded its second phase of polling in the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2021. Incidents of sporadic violence and booth-jamming were reported from different districts of West Bengal as it went to the second phase of polling. A clash broke out between the BJP and TMC  workers in West  Bengal’s North 24 Parganas on Wednesday and a TMC worker was allegedly stabbed to death in the Keshpur area on Thursday, while the polling was underway. The Election Commission of India sought a detailed report from the administration in connection with an incident that occurred in the Boyal area of Nandigram where CM Mamata had earlier paid a visit to oversee the situation.

During a roadshow in Bishnupur, Nadda said that the TMC was a party of tolabazi and added that its true face was out . TMC indulged in tolabazi, cut-money . TMC s true face is out . TMC doing appeasement politics (sic), Nadda said. The roadshow started at about 2.10 pm from Kumari Talkies cinema hall and culminated at the Bishnupur bus stand.

Hitting out at TMC, he opined that those who know that they would be voted out of power, can stoop to any level to get votes.

The battle of the posters between the two parties has begun in West Bengal. In Nandigram, the BJP has raised the question of “outsider” and “insider” after Mamata Banerjee referred to BJP leaders as outsiders. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has a slogan for campaigning in Bengal: ‘Bangla nijer mekai chai,’ which means ‘Bengal wants its daughter.’ At the same time, the BJP has turned on Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram, putting up several posters with the slogan ‘Chai of Nandigram-Midnapur Bhoomiputra, Noy of Bohirgoto,’ which means ‘Nandigram-Midnapur needs Bhumiputra, No outsider.’
