WAYNESBORO Some students will begin the academic year wearing masks in Waynesboro when school begins Aug. 10.
The Waynesboro School Board unanimously adopted a policy Tuesday night at a special called meeting requiring all elementary school students and staff, and unvaccinated middle and high school students and staff to wear masks to begin the year.
Asked after the meeting if proof of vaccination will be required to go maskless at Kate Collins Middle and Waynesboro High, Superintendent Jeffrey Cassell said no.
The school division will follow guidance from the Virginia Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This will allow the school division to update the mask policy without a school board meeting since sometimes guidance changes quickly.
