DANBURY At Monday night’s County Commissioners’ meeting, representatives from the new solar energy farm near Walnut Cove tried to explain fencing to the owner of a major fencing company, and it did not go well for the visitors. At issue was a request by Pinegate Renewables, the Asheville-based company building the Lick Creek Solar farm, to use a type of woven-wire fencing around the large complex, fencing that would allow small animals to pass through. They even brought a section of the “wildlife permeable” fencing to show the Board of Commissioners. ....

By 1964, brothers Nick and Andy Carros had joined the business as managing partners. Ownership stakes have shifted a bit over the years, but for the most part, the Carros family has run Mr. Barbecue through the decades. âThis is a family business,â said Nick Carros, 84, who, though more or less retired, still keeps his hand in the business. Nickâs son, Jimmy, 61, has managed the restaurant since 2007. And when, after the fire, other partners expressed an interest in selling their shares, Jimmy â who used to own Pig Pickinâ â became the principal owner. âI just love the restaurant business and I love Mr. Barbecue,â he said of the decision to become an owner and rebuild after the fire. âI think there would be a gaping hole in the community if there wasnât Mr. Barbecue.â ....
