(Ashley Ludwig/Patch) WAYLAND, MA The preliminary results of the Wayland 2021 spring election are in and show who s leading in the two contested races on the ballot with one possible upset in the works. The Wayland Board of Public Works and the School Committee races each featured two seats up for election in 2021. In the public works board race, three candidates were running for the seat Jonathan Mishara is giving up, and incumbent Clifford Lewis was trying to retain his seat. Meanwhile, newcomer Jessica Polizzotti was beating two-term School Committee member Kathleen Steinberg, and had the most votes in the three-way race. Incumbent Ellen Grieco appeared to be on the way to keeping her seat. ....

(Shutterstock) WAYLAND, MA The Wayland Board of Public Works will meet Monday to select a way to reduce PFAS contamination in town water in the near term. Under state regulations, Wayland needs to come up with both short and long-term solutions for the problem. Earlier this year, water at the Happy Hollow field, which provides about 50 percent of Wayland s drinking water, tested above a state threshold for PFAS chemicals. The town has been distributing bottled water to residents due to potential health hazards posed by the chemicals, especially for pregnant women and people with existing health problems. ....

Wayland’s Town Election will be held later than usual this year on Tuesday, May 11. Ten boards have 17 positions up for re-election. To date, only 11 people have taken out nomination papers, the first step in the process to run for one of these offices. Elected positions include Board of Selectmen (two openings), School Committee (two openings), Board of Assessors (two openings), Library Trustees (two openings), Board of Health (two openings), Planning Board (one opening), Board of Public Works (two openings), Recreation Commission (two openings), Commissioner of Trust Funds (one opening), and Housing Authority (one opening). ....
