The nor’easter that struck Massachusetts Monday into Tuesday dumped more than 18 inches of snow in several communities, forcing some schools to close and others to shift to remote learning while knocking out power for thousands of residents along the way.
But the powerful storm was not felt equally by all. While many in towns to the north and west of Boston spent Tuesday morning digging out, people in parts of Greater Boston waded through slushy puddles and saw less than a half-foot of snow on their sidewalks. ....

Coast pummeled by nor'easter's destructive surf, flooding

While in-land communities saw as much as 2 feet of snow with the nor’easter, communities along the coast faced destructive surf, flooding and erosion.High tides led to coastal flooding in several beach towns, with waves crashing over seawalls and flooding low-lying areas overnight.On Cape Cod, erosion left several homes along Salt Marsh Road in Sandwich so heavily damaged, they have been condemned, including one that’s foundation appeared to collapse after the ground beneath it was washed away. Late Tuesday afternoon, the house had tumbled onto the beach below. “It got undermined and the house is on a 45-degree angle. And it’s totally gone now. There’s no moving it now. It’s just wrecked. It’s just destroyed,” said neighbor Michael Pottey. A coastal flood watch was lifted at 4 p.m. Tuesday.Roads in the Brank Rock section of Marshfield were flooded overnight as the high tide and winds roared in. DPW trucks were brought ....
