Couple to leave pub over fears for post-covid trade ); ); THE landlords of a Watlington pub have decided to move on after more than a decade. Andy and Louise Stokes arrived at the Chequers in Love Lane in the summer of 2010 but have now decided not to renew their lease with Brakspear as they feel the coronavirus crisis has put too much pressure on hospitality businesses. Mr Stokes, a chef, said he and his wife were “incredibly grateful” to both the community and to Brakspear for their support but they believed the time was right to go. The couple are planning to re-open the pub when the government restrictions allow outdoor service on April 12 and then their five-year lease runs out on July 25. ....
Permission granted for 130 homes on two sites ); PLANS to build up to 130 homes in Watlington have been approved. Providence Land is to build up to 70 properties on land north-east of Cuxham Road and up to another 60 west of Pyrton Lane. The sites were earmarked for 60 and 38 respectively in the town’s neighbourhood plan. The developments will include a section of the “edge road”, or bypass, running to the north-west of the town, which is seen as vital in helping to take traffic out of the town centre and improving air quality. The bypass would go from the B4009 Pyrton crossroads north of Watlington to Britwell Road in the south. ....
