Dogs will soon no longer be allowed to roam freely on a popular walking track that meanders out into the Marlborough Sounds. The most scenic parts of Picton’s Victoria Domain will, from August 1, be “on-leash”, with dog walkers wondering if the tighter restrictions are necessary. The move – part of the same bylaw that is opening up Blenheim’s CBD to dogs – is to protect mountainbikers and the biodiversity of the domain. But mountainbikers already have their own mountainbike tracks, and dogs are already banned from those regardless of on-leash or off-leash. ....
