NEW RALEIGH A Robeson County man was convicted in federal court Wednesday for threatening to shoot federal officers conducting surveillance, then firing shots into their vehicle, according to court records. A jury found Gary Lynn Gatlin, 50, guilty of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, forcibly assaulting an officer or employee of the United States and carrying and using a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. A news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina states that in February 2019, two agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives were sitting in a car conducting surveillance for firearms trafficking on Water Tower Road in Orrum when they were approached by Gatlin.
