newsroom. hello, james. shep, good evening. this controversy over npr and juan williams originated with an earlier controversy. namely bill o reilly s own remarks a week ago on the abc daytime talk show the view where in, as you will recall, o reilly said that muslims killed us on 9/11 and two of the view s hosts stomped off the set in protest. this past monday night as on so many nights passed o reilly asked for juan williams perspective on the subject at hand and got it? i mean, look, bill, i m not a bigot. you know the kind of books have written about the civil rights movement in this country but when i get on a plane, i have got to tell you, if i see people who are in muslim garb and i think they are identifying themselves first and foremost as muslims, i get worried. i get nervous. that wasn t all williams said. as npr s own reporter on the story noted williams, quote, warned o reilly not to judge all muslims or all people of any given faith by the extremists among them
