hands and force them to vote on whether or not to open the government back up or not. and it didn t really work. not only that but working for republicans in the situation is just the fact that they seem to be very close to a deal on the trafficking bill which is the big hold up. and senator mcconnell said they are trying to force it and dot the ts and cross the is. but at the same time we don t know whether or not the deal will materialize. if they do vote on that, mcconnell said it will take a day to consider and they will get to loretta lynch before they move on to the iran sanctions, the deal they plan to do next week as well. if they move on the trafficking trafficking trafficking bill, if they break the impasse on that that will happen as soon as next week? the next few days? if they come up with a deal
longer. you have a way . i will force a vote. what will take it to happen? i had a conversation today. with a number of rep republicans who say they have to get it done or they have an opportunity to vote against here. okay. that was a surprise. senator harry reid telling me, i know parliamentary procedure around here. we are going to put up with it a little while longer but not much. we will have a vote for her soon. what senator reid is preparing on doing to get a new attorney general in the country f, if he is proposing what i think he is proposing, it would be upset against the senate.
who says anyone that says that vote wasn t a vote for war is bunk. if i had a lot of paper in front of me, i could quote people who say something very differently. according to excerpts from her new book, her position couldn t be clearer. she writes, quote, many senators came to wish they had voted against the resolution. i was one of them. as the war dragged on with every letter i sent to a family in new york who lost a son and daughter, a father or mother, my mistake became more painful. i thought i had acted in good faith and made the best decision i could with the information i had, and i wasn t alone in getting it wrong, but i still got it wrong. plain and simple. david corn, i think when i see something as leerily stated as that, i have to say how impressed i am. this isn t a statement, well, i went with what i had at the time, all the usual stuff we hear. it s a statement, wrong. i was wrong.
i was hoping there would be proposals. in fact i was hoping that every republican senators would have voted for the discussion. this wasn t a vote for the bill itself. it was a vote to have a discussion, and it would by my idea everybody would support talking about this discussion. there s a lot of discussions to have out there, and i think republicans ought to talk about this, have this discussion. i want to send the message out that, for example, as republicans we re not antigovernment, we re for reasonable government. we re not antitaxes, but for reasonable taxes. we re not antiregulation, but for reasonable regulations. we can send that message out and send the right message to the american people that we care just as much about creating jobs, and of course helping those that need help. senator dean heller, thank you so much. i hope you appreciate that evidence nelvada, not ne-vauda.
have voted yes knowing ahead oft that vote that he was probably not running for reelection and could have helped effort what would have been something, a major positive reform for gun measures? what frustrates, disappoints and angers me is the fact that we had 55 votes in the united states senate as well as 90% of the american people and the vast majority of gun owners all in favor of a common sense proposal to institute background checks, criminal checks on all purchases of firearms in the united states and that measure failed because of a rule that requires 60 votes and because of a handful of senators who were struggling but ultimately did not vote the right way. and i think that the focus going forward has to be on trying to bring those senators back. we ll hopefully have another vote during this session or before the next election but
