the earth has spun off of its axis. what do you make of some of the pushback or not just that, almost the feeling of being drowned by some of this history that a lot of americans are just hearing for the first time. i mean, a lot of that is the failure of history education for decades. where people were taught an inaccurate version of history that didn t actually happen. this lost cause version of the civil war, and of black america after the civil war, that so many people are still frankly taught. certainly we re not taught for most of their lives. when you learned something since you ve been a kid, you hold on to those beliefs tighter, more tightly than if you had done later in life. so, to be told now actually, it wasn t a riot between black and white people that was an even battle, it was just a massacre of white people
joined president biden in tulsa, oklahoma, for the commemorating of the 100th anniversary of the massacre in tulsa, oklahoma, where black wall street was burned, bombed, leveled to the ground. 300 people killed over a lie that a young, black teenage male had assaulted a young, white teenage female. and this president made a direct speech saying it wasn t a riot. it was a massacre. i was able to talk a few minutes with him afterwards one on one and he afforded some of us that had come a few minutes to talk to him and i talked to him about not only how it meant a lot he was the first president in the history of the country to go to tulsa but it is imperative to deal with the george floyd justice in policing act and
an elderly couple was shot while they prayed and these specific stories are important to embed it in the minds of americans. he gave it in graphic detail and he defined it by saying that it wasn t a riot but a massacre. well, to define it as president and i think three things. one, he backed it up with us istance. we re going to deal with the white to black family wealth gap and he talked about how the infrastructure bill would deal with things. second thing i think that was important is that he is not one of the quote, liberal or radicals. here s what he s not a latte liberal. he s a small state guy saying this, and i think i was more effective to the country if it had been a more progressive branded type of politician and third, you know, i talked to him for a while. i have to cedric richard
i m curious your experience in the community because you ve been a very outspoken advocate for reparations. i know you go down to city hall and keep this issue in the light and protest for it. how has the community responded to your demands? varied, right? we still have got have any action from the city. the city officials, council, the mayor, district attorney, a.g., governor, no one has authored we have received no restitution. maya, talk to me about the black wall street times. i started the black wall street times when i moved back to tulsa. when i moved back, the narrative was that there was still a riot that took place here in tulsa, and i noticed that some members of my community, the chief being one of them, saying this wasn t a riot. this was a massacre. 300 people lost their life, 300
turbulence. they are not on a plate where they can roll around and escape you. maybe she was. i bet that woman was not even supposed to be eating nuts. aren t they supposed to get to 30,000 feet before you start to snack? i think this woman, but karma is a b. if you don t have respect for people s time on that plane and she probably felt a little entitled because of who her father was and i am glad. she is the vice president of the airline. i am surprised there wasn t a riot on the plane. can you imagine if you heard about this? we have people that will sit here in a plane that is brought back to the gate. that s insane. i would be like the guy that didn t have enough water at the concert years ago.
