Top Kiwi pianist returns to Warkworth

One of New Zealand’s leading emerging professional pianists will be welcomed back to Warkworth in July.
Liam Wooding thrilled the audience when he played for Warkworth Music as part of the Morton Trio in 2019.
His next Warkworth concert will feature pieces on the themes of reflection and connection.
Among them will be a new work by Australian composer Stuart Greenbaum, Remote Connection, inspired by the experience of isolation during Covid-19.
In addition, Liam will perform Douglas Lilburn’s passionate Sonata in F sharp minor, plus works by Beethoven, Debussy, John Adams and Duke Ellington. ....

Around 80 family and friends gathered on March 17 to celebrate the life of Anne Taylerson – a stalwart of the Warkworth Music Society, Warkworth Floral Art Club and the Warkworth Wellsford Budget Service.
Anne died peacefully at her home earlier this month. She was 81.
Anne grew up in Taihape and Kaikohe and later trained as a nurse at Whangarei Hospital.
An early adventure was travelling to England by ship with two nursing friends – an overseas experience that saw her travel all over Europe between stints of nursing and other fill-in jobs.
She returned to New Zealand in 1964 but soon afterwards joined the Australian Inland Mission, run by the Presbyterian Church, and was assigned to a small isolated hospital and children’s hostel on the Cape York peninsula. ....

Warkworth Music anticipates better year
Warkworth Music will open its 2021 season with a concert by Trio Elan on April 17.
Warkworth Music is looking forward to a smoother season this year after Covid 19 disruptions forced the cancellation of five of its scheduled seven concerts last year.
Seven monthly concerts are scheduled again this year, starting in April with Trio Elan.
Warkworth Music president Lisa Outwin says last year was a challenging year for all, particularly performers and event organisers.
“Only the concerts by Stephen de Pledge and Vesa & Friends proceeded as planned,” Lisa says.
“Fortunately, we were able to arrange two replacement concerts at short notice, thanks to the NZ Trio and the New Zealand String Quartet. All 2020 concerts were outstanding and received very positive audience feedback.” ....
