Updated: 9:17 PM EST Jan 20, 2021 A retired police officer in Massachusetts has died of coronavirus complications, according to the department he served for more than two decades.The Wareham Police Department reported Wednesday that retired Officer Dennis Damata died Tuesday.Damata served in the Wareham Police Department from 1985 until 2010. After his retirement, he continued to serve the community as a special police officer until he contracted COVID-19.He also served the town of Wareham as a member of the Board of Selectmen in past years, according to police. His loss is felt deeply among members of the police department, and other public safety agencies that he worked so closely with, reads a post on the Wareham Police Department s Facebook page. Rest in peace Dennis, from your brothers and sisters at the WPD. Funeral arrangements for Damata have yet to be announced.
