The idea when the regulations went into effect in 2016 was to prevent motel units from become permanent residents for people, though it was noted in some cases they were otherwise on the verge of becoming homeless.
COVID cases up since last Wareham Board of Health meeting
WAREHAM – COVID cases have gone up markedly since the previous Board of Health meeting last month.
Health Director Bob Ethier said during Wednesday s meeting that the latest weekly tally was 77 confirmed cases and seven probable cases, which represented an uptick.
That’s 31 more cases than the last weekly tally presented to the board on March 17. There have been 1,616 confirmed cases in Wareham since March 2020.
On the positive side, Wareham Housing Authority residents have been getting vaccinated through the state and WHA director. “They’re all set” at the WHA’s two residential complexes, Ethier said.
Fifty residents of the Wareham Housing Authority’s Redwood Park received their first dose of the covid-19 vaccine on March 24.
The clinic was run by the Wareham Housing Authority, Old Colony Elder Services, and Wareham Emergency Medical Services.
“We’re just plain lucky!” said Lucy, age 88, who received the vaccine alongside her husband Harold.
“Harold will be celebrating his 90th birthday later this month and we’re overjoyed with the possibility of celebrating this milestone with our family now that we have received the vaccine,” Lucy said.
The clinic was designed to give homebound and vulnerable residents access to the vaccine.
