Taken out. Howie: the media conveyed a sense of national unity when president bush grabbed the mega phone amid the ruins of ground zero. It also spawned controversies that consumed a news business that was more polarized, treatment of muslims the use of gitmo to name a few. America hasn t suffered a terrorist strike of the magnitude perpetrated by osama bin laden killed by our military a decade ago. As five presidents paid tribute yesterday, keep in mind 9/11 led to 20 years of dangerous war reporting and endless arguing over forever wars and how long the united states should try to foster democracy in these tribal cultures which is why the chaotic withdrawal from afghanistan leaves such a bitter taste. A spokesman, captain bill irvin, adds there were significant secondary explosions from the vehicle which indicated a presence of a substantial amount of explosives. This official said there were no indications of civilian casualties at this time but that assessment could change, we re told. The air strike took place in a crowded kabul neighborhood outside the airport. We re told the u. S. Military used this overthehorizon capability and unmanned drone which means the drone likely flew from a military base in the gulf like the one on friday. I think it s notable the timing of this military strike, it was just as the president chairman of the joint chiefs general mark mille and defense secretary lloyd austin met with families of the fallen at the dover air force base. We re getting more details but right now we can confirm it was a drone strike in the kabul neighborhood and the threat was imminent. Howie: the early reports was that it was an explosion near the airport. We didn t know wha

President biden remains committed to a full withdrawal of troops from afghanistan by august 31st, so time is running out for the thousands of people who are still hoping to leave. The hard deadline is only days away. In recent days, the evacuation effort has ramped up. Planes out of the country are now reportedly leaving every a0 minutes. But it s increasingly hard for afghan nationals, even those who have permits, to make it to the airport. That s because the the taliban has said afghans should not head to the airport. Here s one british national who s stuck in kabul. Getting to the airport is extremely difficult if not impossible. Thousands of people at the foregates of kabul airport, and someone with young children and elderly parents. There s no way for us to get to the gates. And i know people who have attempted to three or four times and have gone back home. In spite of the challenges, the biden administration is emphasising the successes of the evacuation effort. Reporter: we expect to hear the president, when he speaks, try to change the focus from the rough initial phase of this drawdown and this evacuation, on to the progress that the white house feels they have made over the last 72 hours or so, in ramping up what they are calling one of the largest airlift operations in history. So they are going to be pointing to some of the numbers that show that they re getting more and more people out of afghanistan, including about 3900 people in the most recent 24hour period, according to the white house, who were airlifted on u. S. Military aircraft making for a total of 25,000 since august 14th, who versus airlifted on military as well as commercial flights. The president has a lot of explaining to, as he s under a barrage of criticism, not only from u. S. Allies, including nato and g7 members who the president will meet with virtually on tuesday, but f
