The venue became well known for its Friday night basketball games, which were followed by dances for teenagers in the community. The family orchestra performed at the latter function and the dance quickly became a meeting place for youngsters.
Basketball teams from near and far played spirited games on the highly polished wood floor in the building and some key rivalries between village squads and teams from out-of-town attracted large audiences.
Some of the teams that participated in the games included the village’s Johnson Hose Company, St. Mary’s Elementary School pupils, Boy Scout troops, the Delpi Club, Wappingers Falls High School, along with the Poughkeepsie Central Hudsons, and the Kingston Crescents.
