About 20 three campuses have backward culture. Chico represents the northern part of the state, but we draw students from all over california to get experience in agriculture. Region started the gold rush, the 1850s. The first people here after native americans were those who had land grants or prospectors. My family has been in this my kids will be six generation involved in agriculture in this area. Historically it was prederogation. A sickly what you could go grow with natural rainfall, sheep, cattle, gold and timber. Thats what chico was founded on. The spanish land grants, john bidwells area, started to grow into more diversity, particularly the sheep business became strong. Probably the biggest change we saw is when we created irrigation systems. That was in the early 1900s, we started to see more control of both the flood for your edition and agriculture. ,e saw a shift when race came this was one of the first that changed the agricultural economy at that point.
