Budget sheet item. it s going to come down to justification and that the democrats will have to react to that number that the white house will bring to the meeting again tomorrow. if you were there, what would your opinion be here, representative? well, if i were there, i would remind the president that this is a third rent centucentun to a 21st century problem. if you read today s wall street journ journal, william hurd is quoted as saying that. there s a bipartisan agreement in the house this is just not the way to go. the president again has double crossed us. that s how we got here in the first place. he said he was going to do one thing. the senate relied on it, then he pulled the rug out from underneath when fox news got upset. this is going to be tough going. it s hard to negotiate with someone who doesn t keep their word. what we re also hearing from the congressional read-outs, ....
This is a very smart man, standing up and defending vladimir putin and the russians. i don t know how you start a presidency with that. just a few moments ago paul ryan spoke at a press conference. he agreed that russia was behind the attack and did try to interfere with the elections. what happens tomorrow? do you think they can convince donald trump? i don t begin to be able to predict the thought process of donald trump. he is going to sit with the intelligence heads. you ve watched the hearings. you know they re very, very careful about what they do and how they say it. how think how the president-elect respond to the top intelligence leaders in this country is going to be another signal of how seriously he will take his number one obligation, which is to keep the american people safe. how about this idea we re heard from the wall street journ ....
Guess. that is the question. i think a lot of republicans are watching those polls very closely today and will be and through the first debate. we ve gotten a slew of new polls in recent days showing romney down in key battleground states. take a look at some brand-new polls from nbc, the wall street journ journal and marris today. the president up by five points in colorado and also up five in wisconsin. in ohio, ahead of romney by eight point. last night three new polls reiterated the dom knee deficit. in florida town five points. in ohio, a seven-point advantage. and virginia obama is ahead by seven. alex, i m stunned. i don t think these things will hold. i think this election is going to wobble between now and november. but you ve got to wonder what romney is thinking. there s a lot of pressure from the right on him to fire stu stevens, i read in the wall street journal today. and the question is, will he buckle and basically eat it? fire his best guy under the pressure ....
Accompany calista to the opera at the kennedy senator. a few days later, the final straw. the greek isles. ignoring the pleas of his top aides, gingrich put his campaign on hold to go with calista on a cruise. 16 staffers resigned. of course, they make decisions together about their schedule. it s their life. reporter: gingrich s campaign spokesman defends the strategy. the fact is, this is newt s campaign, he s going to run it the way he thinks is best for america. reporter: but many republicans wonder if gingrich can ever recover. started as one of the worst campaign starts in the history of campaigns and my guess is he ll be done fairly soon. that was michael isikoff, our national investigative correspondent on all the things about gingrich, inc that may have led to what appears to be the fall of this presidential campaign. by the way, wait until you see newt gingrich s poll numbers in tonight s new nbc wall street journ ....
To afford. so they like their medicare while at the same time don t want to hear that medicare is a huge driver of the deficit. so that s the challenge for the politicians. it s always been that way. but the white house is going to be more much more cautious here. president obama has got much more of a re elect strategy here. he doesn t want to take on the big fight over medicare. he s done that on health care. that was his health care reform plan. and that was tough enough as it was for the party and for him. david gregory, and you re going to be right in the middle of both the short-term and the big picture, the long-term. because you ve got paul ryan, the man who is making all the news on the budget. well, that s right. and i think what i would like to do here by the end of the week is have a larger conversation about our the budget crisis, leadership, and how this is really all about the 2012 campaign. this is the debate. all right. meet the press thank you very much, d ....
