Cleveland Teen Is Finalist In National Scholarship Competition

Taylor Schneider of Cleveland was named one of eight finalists Saturday in the Distinguished Young Women National Finals competition and awarded a $5,000 cash scholarship. Ms. Schneider also earned a $1,000 self-expression category award and $1,000 interview category award.
Following a selection process that began in her home state of Tennessee, Ms. Schneider began preparing for the 64th annual scholarship competition. Historically, the competition has taken place in its founding city of Mobile, Ala. This year, due to COVID-19 safety precautions, the competition was conducted virtually and is being showcased in a free three-night online broadcast at DYWNationalFinals.com. ....

Chamber Celebrates Youth Leadership Graduation

Nine area seniors representing Bradley Central, Cleveland and Walker Valley high schools graduated from the 19th Youth Leadership class of the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce in a ceremony at Peerless Road Church.
“This is an outstanding group of young men and women that I am confident will be successful in the future, and are the promising future leaders of our community, our state and our country,” Sherry Crye, Youth Leadership coordinator and recently retired director of workforce development for the chamber, said during the graduation ceremony. “Great leadership usually starts with a willing heart, a positive attitude and a desire to make a difference.” ....
