Spa 24 Hour-winning squad Walkenhorst Motorsport has announced that it will enter the DTM this season, ensuring the venerable BMW M6 GT3 will be represented in the revamped series.
After the withdrawal of Audi from the DTM last year, the Class 1 rule-set was scrapped and has been replaced by the popular GT3 formula, with Mercedes, Audi, Ferrari and McLaren set to be represented.
BMW pledged support for the DTM s new era last year, but warned that it won t officially get involved in the series until its new M4 challenger is homologated in September. ....

DTM outfit enters ALMS in record 36-car grid
The Asian Le Mans Series has announced a record 36-car entry for 2021, with DTM outfit Phoenix Racing among its number fielding prototype machinery for the first time.
The four-round series will be held in its entirety at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi due to COVID-19 travel restrictions in Asia, with two hour-hour races on 5-6 February and 19-20 February using different track layouts.
Ernst Moser s stalwart Phoenix team, which delivered DTM titles for Martin Tomczyk (2011) and Mike Rockenfeller (2013), will enter an ORECA 07 in the LMP2 class and a Ligier JS P320 in the LMP3 class for unconfirmed drivers following the conclusion of the DTM s Class 1 DTM rule-set. ....

Victory and a title win at the season finale in the Intercontinental GT Challenge in Kyalami for the BMW M6 GT3: a dramatic finish to the ‘Kyalami 9 Hour’ saw Sheldon van der Linde, Nick Catsburg and Augusto Farfus emerge victorious in the #34 BMW M6 GT3 of Team Walkenhorst Motorsport. Catsburg and Farfus, who had already triumphed at the 8 Hours of Indianapolis, claimed the drivers’ title in the IGTC.
