Many Leader readers will know that a priority for me is ensuring that our communities and Wales as a whole, builds back not just greener but fairer, following the coronavirus pandemic. Having spent a number of years working for a trade union, which helped give me my values and my voice, ensuring that workers’ voices are not just heard but help shape better work in Wales is extremely important to me.
During the last government I was asked by the First Minister to lead the work on the Social Partnership Bill, which is a piece of legislation which will create a formal partnership between the Welsh Government, trade unions and businesses in Wales. This work continues from the good practice which we saw during the height of the pandemic, to keep those who were unable to work from home, as safe as possible in the workplace. Ditch the car, Keighley parents are urged


WALKING to school is beneficial for parents as well as children.
That was the message issued to coincide with annual Walk to School Week, organised by the Living Streets charity.
Parents across Keighley are being urged to leave their cars at home wherever possible and instead take their children to and from school on foot – boosting their health and cutting traffic congestion and pollution.
Former primary school teacher Oli Ryan, of education resources company PlanBee, has offered advice as part of the week.
“Enjoying the mental and physical health benefits of walking are right at the heart of Walk to School Week,” he said. ....

Northumberland children take to the streets for Walk to School Week


Northumberland school children will be taking to the streets this week and celebrating the benefits of walking for Walk to School Week.
Walk to School Week takes place during National Walking Month from May 17 – 21 and is organised by Living Streets, a UK charity for everyday walking.
This year’s campaign focuses on the health and environmental benefits of walking to school, with Walk to School Week exploring how being active helps children gain ‘superpowers’ to improve their health, happiness, and local environment.
Families are being encouraged not only to walk, but also cycle, scoot, or ‘Park and Stride’ for the entire week to see differences such as fewer cars outside the school gates, and healthy and happy children. ....
