Shopping malls, restaurants sealed in South, Korangi districts

The District South and District Korangiâs administration took action against violators of Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) on Tuesday.
In Korangi No. 2, the Eid shopping continued despite the nine-day lockdown put in place by the Sindh government on Sunday to prevent a surge in Covid-19 cases during the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays.
Later, the assistant commissioner of the area, however, sealed the market when the news of violations flashed on TV screens. âWhen we reached the market, shopping was going on,â the assistant commissioner of the area, Imtiaz Mangi, said, adding that shopkeepers thought that if they were fined and once they had paid the fine, they could open their shops. âThat is why, this time we have completely sealed the market.â

Several shops and shopping centres were sealed in District South for non-compliance with Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) late on Friday night and on Saturday.
On the orders of District South Deputy Commissioner Irshad Sodhar, Civil Lines Assistant Commissioner Walid Baig sealed several shops in the Clifton and DHA neighbourhoods.
According to the details issued by the office of the District South deputy commissioner, the sealed shops included gyms, salons and restaurants, and action was taken against them for not complying with the official timings.
In its April 23 notification, the National Command & Operation Centre had announced that markets throughout Pakistan were to close by 6pm, with only shops selling essential items allowed to remain open till late. Indoor and outdoor dining had also been banned during Ramazan.

On directions of the deputy commissioners (DCs) of District South and District Malir, action on Friday and Saturday was taken against violators of standard operating procedures (SOPs) during the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to the South DC Office, a restaurant and a wedding hall were sealed for violating the SOPs and a total of 13 people were fined with Rs500.
Civil Lines Assistant Commissioner Walid Baig sealed the wedding hall in Clifton for violating the social distancing SOP.
The Lyari assistant commissioner sealed a cloth marker on Shah Waliullah Road and fined five people Rs500 each for violations of the Covid-19 SOPs and not wearing masks.
