BOREHOLE ASSESSMENTS AND REPAIR WORKS IN THE NORTHERN DIVISION BY TEAM LMR

Two teams from the Mineral Resources Department (MRD) were sent to conduct borehole assessment and reticulation works in the cyclone affected areas in the north. Both teams have completed most of the borehole assessments and repair on ground water reticulation works in Bua, Macuata and Cakaudrove Province.

Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Hon. Jone Usamate said that the teams have been doing a great job on the post TC Yasa restoration works. He also commended them for standing up to the call of the nation, sacrificing Christmas and New Year’s celebration with their families. ....

Several roads across the country are closed due to flooding.
The Fiji Roads Authority says in the Central Division, Navunisole crossing in Korovou is close to all traffic.
Nakorovou Village Crossing on Nakorovou Village Road just off Nawiwaivusa road is closed as well.

In the Western Division, Navilawa 5th Crossing is closed due to approach washout.
Matawale Crossing on Valley Road, Sigatoka is also closed.
Drawa Crossing on Drawa Village Road is closed.
Northern Division, Zailav Crossing is closed to traffic, this also Daria Crossing, Nabouwalu Road, Wainunu, Bua.
Dawacumu Splash Crossing, Namuavoivoi Road, Bua is closed due to flooding. ....

The Fiji Roads Authority has confirmed that several roads are closed in the Central, Western and Northern divisions due to flooding.
The Kings and Queens Highways are open.
A heavy rain warning is in force for the eastern and interior parts of Viti Levu which include Suva, Tailevu, Naitasiri and Navua as well as Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Lau and Lomaiviti Group.
All this rain is being brought by a trough of low pressure that continues to slowly move over the Fiji group. ....

Preliminary impact damage assessments from the divisions have identified damage sustained to more than 300 houses in the Northern and Eastern Divisions after Severe Tropical Cyclone Yasa.
The teams from the divisions were deployed to affected communities and villages last week following the aftermath of TC Yasa.
Government officials from Viti Levu have also been deployed as part of the 120 personnel deployment to Vanua Levu to assist in conducting the assessments in the North.
The team is in Vanua Levu and will begin with assessments and distribution of emergency food packs and non-food items today. ....
