Referred to as the heart of Arvida’s fastest-growing retirement community, the residents clubhouse has officially opened in the aged care provider s Waimea Plains village at Richmond, near Nelson. Since the first residents arrived 16 months ago, Waimea Plains on Lower Queen St has grown to include 83 villas and townhouses. The official opening of the clubhouse on Friday with a blessing by kaumātua Harvey Ruru was described as the “icing on the cake”. Arvida chief executive Bill McDonald called the opening of the $6.5 million building a “big milestone”. ....

During the peak season between mid-December and mid-January, Eden Rd Fruit would normally produce about 400-500 tonnes picked from its 30-hectare orchard. It processes 70 per cent of that in the first three weeks. Berry sizes coming into the packhouse had been good so far, although Sutton anticipated a slightly lower than average season in terms of overall yield. ....
