New classrooms and building improvements for central and lower North Island schools

Six schools across Wellington, Manawatū-Whanganui and Taranaki are getting a funding boost so projects can enter construction and deliver much needed works sooner, Education Minister Chris Hipkins announced today.
While visiting Cannons Creek School in Porirua, Chris Hipkins also announced 10 schools in the central and lower North Island that will benefit from the Government’s ongoing investment in short-term roll growth classrooms. The programme delivers temporary teaching spaces around the country to cater for rapidly growing rolls.
“The additional investment in these schools will support them to provide learning environments for their students that are warm, dry and fit for purpose,” Chris Hipkins said. ....

Child in serious condition after being hit by vehicle on Kāpiti Coast


A heavy emergency service presence was at the scene and the road had been cordoned off. A police spokeswoman said cordons were lifted about 5.30pm following a scene investigation.
Sharp has long had concerns about the safety of pedestrians on the street which is bisected by a rail crossing at its western end. Traffic often sped up to beat the barriers, he said.
