Blood moon a-rising sees people flowing into city centre

The Nelson Science Society astronomy section put telescopes in Upper Trafalgar St, allowing members of the public to view the lunar eclipse on Wednesday night.
While many stepped outside their homes to check out the lunar eclipse, some took to the city streets to get a better view.
The blood supermoon on Wednesday night had people staying up past their bedtime and hitting Nelson city centre just before the witching hour to take a peek at the rare event through a telescope and binoculars.
Nelson Science Society astronomy section convener Hamish Barker said nearly 50 keen sky watchers ebbed and flowed to Upper Trafalgar Street letting out exclamations of “wow” and “oh my god” as they took a closer look at the moon through a lens, which was still a magnificent sight with the naked eye. ....
