COVID-19: 1,407 New Cases, 64 Deaths Reported in Afghanistan The Ministry of Public Health on Monday reported 1,407 new positive cases of COVID-19 out of 4,514 samples tested in the last 24 hours. The ministry also reported 64 deaths and 917 recoveries from COVID-19 in the same period. Afghanistan has so far recorded 117,158 positive cases and 4,794 deaths from COVID-19 in total. The number of positive cases and deaths remains high. On Saturday the Ministry of Public Health announced that all schools and universities in 16 provinces, including Kabul, will remain closed for two weeks to prevent the spread of the third wave of COVID-19. Afghanistan: 1,532 New Cases of COVID-19, 80 Deaths Reported Afghanistan on Sunday once again recorded a high number of daily COVID-19 deaths and positive cases of the virus, despite officials’ optimism over a 1% decline in coronavirus infections in the country. The Public Health Ministry reported 1,532 new positive cases of COVID-19 and 80 deaths from the virus in the last 24 hours, a daily figure similar to rates in the past weeks. The ministry said that 4,994 samples were tested in the country’s laboratories in the last 24 hours. 805 recoveries from COVID-19 were also reported in the same period, showing a remarkable increase in the number of those who survive the virus.
