According to official figures, 2.5 million human beings have died of COVID-19 since the pandemic invaded our lives and consciousnesses. And that is probably an underestimate.
To get a full picture of this planetary catastrophe, we must take into consideration that many victims died cut off from their loved ones, alone and desperate. They felt pain, they could not breathe. Others died after being put in an artificial coma to tolerate having a ventilator shoved down their throat. Which did not mean the brain shuts down as a result. I’ll never forget reading about a Montreal man who hallucinated snakes writhing around his bed while he was under deep sedation.
