i think speaker pelosi is channeling the frustration that they have towards this squad. the fact that they have the megaphone and the ability to set the agenda but pelosi knows they re not a threat to her legislatively. but i think as we saw today, she recognizes that it was probably a mistake to get into a back-and-forth with them. they have the activism and energy of the party on their side. they have the desire for generational change there. they re not a threat on the vote card. why get into a back and forth when it just channels frustrations and irritations. but it also generates headlines, mostly in conservative websites, that suggest the democrats are in disarray. newsweek, nancy pelosi against the squad. breitbart, alexandria ocasio-cortez calls pelosi racist. fox news, aoc ups ante in feud in pelosi, suggests speaker is sing lig out newly elected women of color. it does provide a punching bag especially in the conservative
momentum. i would be at this point, if i were leadership i wouldn t back up but i would have given more time in the beginning. do you think they re surprised? they re a bit surprised by it and prepared for some of it. each one of us and the honor and the privilege we have to serve here with that vote card we owe our constituents and everybody in america our best judgment and our best effort so if there s a push to get in line it better be followed up with policy and the best interest in the united states of america for the long-term so i think we all have to use our best judgment and part of that judgment is if nothing gets done here in this congress we re stuck with obamacare for a cycle or more
done. that being said, there s a number of negotiations going on at 1600 pennsylvania avenue but capitol hill as we speak. we hope to find some consensus. you re a modest man. but you have veto power over there? no, i don t. i have one vote. my vote card has my picture on it. it doesn t belong to me. it belongs to the people of western north carolina. that s what motivates me. [question inaudible] again, i m one vote. i can tell you that we re trying to get another 30 to 40 votes that are currently in the no category to yes. once we do that, we can move forward with passing it on the house floor. do you agree with some of your colleagues that voting for the bill in the current form would be worse than doing nothing? some of the provisions in here do not lower healthcare
