据了解，米河镇位于豫西山区，全镇共有19个行政村，常住人口约3万余人，其中镇区周边有约2万人。7月20日，位于两条河流交汇处的米河镇镇区被漫过河堤的洪水淹没，大量道路损毁，房屋进水，车辆被淹。经过米河镇的310国道被水毁约100余米，亟待抢通。
记者7月21日凌晨在镇区走访发现，洪水已经退去，但路面上堆满了淤泥，居民房屋普遍被淹了半层高。在米河镇政府2楼和3楼的会议室，大量的群众被临时安置在这里。米河镇党委负责人表示，待天亮以后，会进行第二轮的受困群众搜救。
据了解，7月20日13点30分开始，该镇通信中断，截至7月21日早晨6时尚没恢复。据介绍，巩义市已调集了武警及民兵共计180余人，消防救援大队及公安干警100人，民间救援团队40余人，投入救援。
