NILES Seniors who have been giving back to their communities got some well-deserved acknowledgement last Friday as AmeriCorps Seniors took over Eastwood Field for its Volunteer All Stars recognition event. Approximately 75 local volunteers with the Foster Grandparents and RSVP Retired Senior Volunteer Program were invited to drive up to the stadium or walk through the concourse and collect recognition gifts like flowers, mugs, bags and T-shirts. Volunteers also were treated with lunch to go, and, of course, a picture with Mahoning Valley Scrappers mascot Scrappy. Gerard Kelly, director of RSVP, said that volunteering provides recognition for seniors, which is what the All Stars event was all about. It also keeps seniors active and healthier. ....
Apr 1, 2021 VOLUNTEER ALL STARS AT EASTWOOD FIELD: AmeriCorps Seniors have teamed up with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers’ mascot Scrappy to use the Eastwood Field concourse to celebrate the Volunteer All Stars of the Foster Grandparents and Retired and Senior Volunteer Program on April 30. Volunteers will walk through the concourse to pick up AmeriCorps Seniors swag, game tickets and a boxed lunch. Everyone will be required to wear a mask and social distance. More than 520 volunteers have given $1,180,698 worth of national service work in Family and Community Services Inc. across Ohio. These volunteers come together to help communities in need. AmeriCorps Seniors empowers Americans 55 and better to serve their communities. ....
