PM launches Rukun Tetangga community leadership empowerment plan

PETALING JAYA: The government will further empower the leadership of the thousands of Kawasan Rukun Tetangga (KRT) nationwide through the relevant ministries and agencies, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. The Prime Minister said that the 8,274 KRTs nationwide have been the backbone in carrying out unity programmes by the government in neighbourhoods, although they were initially set up for the purpose of keeping neighbourhoods safe and peaceful. Muhyiddin said this at the virtual launch of the Rukun Tetangga Community Leadership Empowerment Plan 2021 and Rukun Tetangga Perdana Awards Ceremony on Sunday (Feb 28). The virtual function, organised by the Unity Ministry, was also attended by National Unity Minister Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique and Deputy Unity Minister Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker.

KOTA TINGGI, Jan 30 Rukun Tetangga groups (KRT) and Voluntary Patrol Schemes (SRS) activities are now allowed during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period, but only involving specific programmes subjected to the National Security Council’s standard operating procedures (SOPs). National Unity Minister Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique said among the programmes allowed were security patrols in residential areas, flood relief missions and preparation of personal protective equipment (PPE).
