Health Canada recalls select vitamins after metal pieces found

Health Canada has issued a recall on certain vitamins that may contain metal wire pieces. According to the notice, Church and Dwight Canada Corp. is recalling certain lots of its L’il Critters Gummy Vites children’s vitamins, Vitafusion Fibre Well, and Vitafusion MultiVites vitamins for adults due to possible contamination. Health Canada After investigating consumers’ complaints, the company found thin, visible metal fragments about 25 mm long that are believed to be caused by a manufacturing issue. Government of Canada The affected vitamins have expiration dates of 02/2022, 04/2022, 05/2022, or 11/2022. “Health Canada is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall and the company’s implementation of any necessary corrective and preventative actions,” the health agency wrote.

In a recall notice posted on the federal Food and Drug Administration’s website, New Jersey-based Church & Dwight said it ”initiated a voluntary recall of select Vitafusion gummy products after the company’s investigation of two consumer reports identified the possible presence of a metallic mesh material.” The products were manufactured from Oct. 29 to Nov. 3, according to the notice, which said the company is not aware of any reports of consumer illness or injury but warned that, in “some severe cases, ingesting a metallic material could lead to damage of the digestive tract.”
