SunStar (From Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas) + June 18, 2021 PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte lauded the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (Opav) for the creation of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Manual for Covid-19 Response at the city and municipal level. In a message, he congratulated OPAV for publishing the manual that is “designed to help the local implementers of our COVID-19 response in the Visayas, (and) will truly standardize our procedures in combatting this disease.” EOC was established in Cebu when the surge of cases occurred in 2020. In June 2020, Cebu was dubbed as the epicenter for Covid-19 since it had the greatest number of cases in the entire country at the time.

The screenshot was posted by DOH 7 spokesperson Dt. Mary Jean Loreche on the Visayas media viber group. Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, chief pathologist and spokesperson of the Department of Health-Central Visayas (DOH 7), said they received reports that the “Philippine variant” was renamed to “Central Visayas variant” in publication materials from the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO).

Free swab testing for ROFs, OFWs at arrival area of Mactan-Cebu Airport

Published April 5, 2021, 4:54 PM CEBU CITY – Returning Overseas Filipinos (ROFs) and Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) can get free swab testing at the international arrival area of the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA). Spearheaded by the Department of Health-Central Visayas (DOH Region 7), the project was officially launched last April 1 but the giving of free swab testing and RT-PCR testing to ROFs and returning residents at MCIA started last March 31. “This move to test upon arrival and for free unburdens the OWWA (Overseas Workers Welfare Administration. It also (keeps them) from spending so much on their hotel stays,” said Loreche. The DOH Region 7 project is in partnership with the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV) and “Project Balik Buhay.”
