Come into effect when the national emergencies act is declared. and it s time for congress to review all of that and take back its power. why do you think congress has been so complicit, if you will, in ceding so much control over the years? well, you know, it s not a surprise that every executive wants to control as much as possible. and i think our constitution was actually designed to prevent against exactly that. and so i would argue that we could argue day long ago whether the congress has done this appropriately over the years. but it s been inch by inch by inch and in terms of both looking at what the committees are doing now in terms of oversight and investigation as well as looking at the national emergencies act and moving to terminate this declaration of emergency is one way to begin to regain the power that congress rightly deserves as the article one branch of the constitution. ....
Today that they haven t heard from the special counsel s office in a number of weeks. there s been no more talk of the president submitting more testimony. what, if anything, can we make of that, greg? i m not sure if we can make anything of that, really. especially because of the source. but mya is absolutely right. i think congress per the reg does have the right to know of any disagreements between the ag and the special counsel. what i would suggest that congress will also have an interest and will express the interest even in the absence of disagreements between the special counsel and the ag which would have to be provided to congress. they will demand all of the details. i just can t imagine a scenario where congress and to some extent a bipartisan way doesn t demand virtually everything that bob mueller has to potentially share with them. and that s going to put the ag in a very tough spot. as i said, that s where the negotiation comes in. greg, thank you. mya, thank you. ....
Through the process with the attorney general s office, the justice department s ethics lawyersrecuse himself from the investigation. do you believe that still to be the case? in a case like this that s such high profile and there is so much interest in this case and this investigation, i don t know why he wouldn t do that. frankly, i think it would be reassuring to the american public and to the members of congress. if in fact he could say, i took this matter to the career professionals at the department of justice and they have given me the okay. they believe it is appropriate for me to be totally involved in this investigation. because, again, these rules exist not for the individual. they exist to protect the institution, the department of justice. so for that reason, i hope he would do that. do you think he needs to make the promise as a voter? and you ll be watching with us. ....

I would simply make the point you re making as well. we re making the same point which is i think we ve all got to be on guard for racist or other comments across the board and be consistent in that. that s my only point. i would concur with you. maybe i should have spoken out. again, you don t catch every word said on the floor of the congress or everything everybody says back home in the congressional district. i don t think it is a commentary as much on how anyone may have missed past comments. i think it is appropriate that it s blown up as it has. but i think you can t just single out steve king and say we ve got to make a stand here when nobody is making the same comments in many cases, the same republicans, about trump when he says equally offensive things. okay. that s a fair point. listen to what president trump said yesterday. he was asked what he thinks about steve king s comments. listen to how he responded. ....
