SunStar + May 03, 2021 CEBU-BASED The Pork Shop has expanded its operations in the province of Leyte by opening an outlet in Ormoc City. The expansion augments the supply of pork that is guaranteed fresh and locally produced, according to The Pork Shop franchisee lawyer Manuel Montejo Jr. “We can assure the market of the quality of the pork products that we will be selling in the branch. This is consistent with Virginia Farms Inc.’s promise of high quality local pork products,” said Montejo. The Pork Shop is Virginia Farms Inc.’s retail arm that sells fresh chilled pork products. Aside from in Ormoc City, the company now has a total of 47 branches in Cebu, three branches in Iloilo City and one branch in Naval, Biliran. ....
April 30, 2021 CONSUMERS in Leyte will now be assured of a steady supply of fresh and local pork as The Pork Shop recently opened its first branch in the province. The Pork Shop held the grand opening of its branch in Naval, Biliran in March. The branch is the first of many that were lined up to open in major economic areas in the province through its franchisee Atty. Manuel Montejo Jr. Eastern Visayas, specifically the province of Leyte, has several municipalities that were hit by the African Swine Fever, forcing the government to cull at least 4,000 hogs. This resulted to shortage in supply and driving prices of pork to a higher than normal level. ....
SunStar + April 14, 2021 BRANCHES of The Pork Shop will soon carry fresh fruits and vegetables under the Asturias Harvest brand following the joint partnership between Virginia Farms Inc. and the Asturias local government, a top official said. Virginia Farms said it will be duplicating its buy-back model for hog farmers to local crop farmers in Asturias, Cebu to augment their livelihood. The firm will buy the fruits and vegetables produced by the farmers at a guaranteed price. The local government of Asturias, on the other hand, will provide assistance like the initial inputs of seeds and fertilizers and the installation of irrigated water systems. ....

(VFI), a move that now helps the Cebu-based company sustain its production of hogs that are safe and free from African Swine Fever (ASF). A statement released on Thursday showed that VFI has availed a short-term loan from Landbank in 2020 as working capital for the expansion of The Pork Shop, the company’s retail business. Though Landbank didn’t specify the amount of VFI’s newest loan, it said that in 2020 alone, it extended a P37.48 billion loan to different livestock projects across the country. Of this, P16.86 billion were lent to the piggery industry. ....
