STEUBENVILLE The Jefferson County Health District is looking for county help coming up with the final $50,000 needed for its new Wellness on Wheels project.

ST. CLAIRSVILLE Progress in upgrading the county’s water and sewer systems led the Belmont County Board of Commissioners’ Wednesday meeting.
The commissioners signed a settlement statement for the transfer of property belonging to the Muxie Distributing Co., to be used for the construction of a water treatment plant.
Commissioner J.P. Dutton said the agreement for transferring the property should be closed by this coming Monday.
He added the location of the 2.5-acre property along the Ohio River in the village of Bellaire is located near the current plant.
“We’re trying to stay as close to our wells as possible, which is where this property is. The further you get away from those wells, then you’re talking about a lot of pipe being run, It just increases the cost,” Dutton said. “It’s going to be a great location for our new water treatment plant, which is going to break ground very soon.” ....

GRANTED — Commissioner Dave Maple leafs through the list of small businesses and nonprofits awarded funds via Jefferson County’s Emergency Relief Grant Program. Linda Harris
STEUBENVILLE Seventy-one small businesses and nonprofits received grants for COVID-related expenses or losses through Jefferson County’s Emergency Relief Grant Program, commissioners reported Thursday.
“This was our best vehicle to (help them),” Commissioner Dave Maple said. “We’re not a granting authority, we don’t often have the opportunity to (pump) money back into the community like that.”
Commissioners had decided in November to set aside $1 million from the county’s CARES Act fund allotment to assist beleaguered businesses and civic groups throughout the county. To be funded, applicants had to meet specific eligibility requirements and demonstrate either lost revenues or extra expenses they incurred in serving the community. Aroun ....
