Formula E Valencia, Spain Valencia E-Prix 2 – Andre Lotterer led a Tag Heuer Porsche 1-2 in the only free practice session of the second Spanish round. After overnight rain the day’s first track action took place on a wet, but slowly drying track. Setting their fast laps at the very end of the session, Porsche saw Pascal Wehrlein briefly top the timesheets before his teammate put in a 1:35.269. That was enough to put Lotterer just over three hundredths ahead of Wehrlein. Sam Bird was 0.404 off the quickest lap but, after Jaguar struggled in every session yesterday, will be hoping that the team have managed to fix some of the issues and give themselves a fighting chance today. ....
Formula E Rome, Italy Rome E-Prix 1 – Techeetah’s Jean-Eric Vergne wins ahead of the two Jaguars in a Rome race bookended by the Safety Car. The Mini Electric Pacesetter led the pack away as the race started under safety car conditions as the track was wet in parts. The Mini led them around the first lap to give the drivers a chance to feel out the conditions before pulling into the pits and getting the race underway with 39 minutes plus 1 lap of the race left. As the track went green, the top two of Stoffel Vandoorne and Andre Lotterer pulled a gap to the rest before the Porsche driver made a move for the lead. The two cars and the inside of the corner can’t all fit into the same space so the Mercedes driver has to go into the run off area while Lotterer gets caught on the outside wall, the two drop back to 7th and 13th. ....
Vandoorne secures pole for Rome E-Prix 1 Rome, Italy Rome E-Prix – Stoffel Vandoorne secured pole for Mercedes ahead of this afternoon’s ABB FIA Formula E World Championship race in Rome. Vandoorne had been third quickest in group qualifying stages but was quite confident in his SuperPole lap saying “Okay, let’s see what the others can do.” over team radio after setting his 1:38.484. The last Rome E-Prix pole sitter, Andre Lotterer, felt TAG Heuer Porsche had the potential for the best grid slot but had an issue to fix during his lap and had to settle for second. Oliver Rowland was on course to go fastest, he had the best first and second sector times but knocked his steering after hitting a wall at T12 before breaking his left rear wheel at the final corner where he took another two hits. The Brit ended 0.405 off Vandoorne and had to stop his Nissan e.dams on track to prevent more damage. ....
