Macedonia ratifies fire union pact, OKs new sign code

MACEDONIA – At its first meeting of 2021 on Jan. 14, City Council ratified a three-year bargaining agreement with the International Association of Firefighters Local 3947 and approved a revised sign ordinance.
The firefighters contract covers the years 2020, 2021 and 2022, and provides for 2 percent salary hikes each year. One new section states fire personnel may not work more than 48 consecutive hours unless there is an ongoing emergency scene or with the fire chief’s approval.
Another new section states fire personnel who are mandated to work overtime on a designated holiday shall be compensated at two times the normal pay rate, and any mandated overtime work on a non-holiday shall receive 1.5 times the normal rate. ....

Council considers resolution opposing 'governor's actions on COVID 19

MACEDONIA – When it reconvenes in the new year, City Council could take a stand to oppose Gov. Mike DeWine’s executive orders regarding the coronavirus crisis.
Also in the new year, Council will consider whether to enact a new chapter of the codified ordinances focusing on portable, on-demand storage devices (PODS), construction dumpsters and dumpster bags.
Council introduced a resolution at its Dec. 10 meeting – its last one of 2020 – opposing the governor’s executive orders which the resolution says “have limited the freedoms, livelihoods and economic standing of the residents of Macedonia.”
About the COVID-19 situation, Councilman David Finley said the governor should “let us live our lives and move on.” He urged city residents to make their feelings known to city officials prior to Council’s vote on the resolution. ....
